Film Prep Week 4

This week, we focused on starting our script and figuring out which shots to use for scenes. We referenced our storyboard.

First, we will start with establishing shots of the forest, showing the sun shining through the trees. We will have shots of the MC walking through the forest, and an establishing shot of the house with overgrown plans on it. It then cuts to our main character waking up and going through their daily routine. Most of this will be in medium shots. For when the MC goes down the stairs, we will use a low angle shot. At the end, the camera will slowly pan to the door and then go straight to black and the title card will show.

Film Prep Week 3

This week, we focused on gathering materials for our film opening. Starting with the costume, I already have a gray tank top which I am going to distress and make look dirty. Thalia has the cargo pants. For our props, we are going to use what we already have. They are not too important because they will mostly be in the background. The props we will use are a satchel/bag for the MC to hold tools, alarm clock, food for them to eat for breakfast, maybe a fake knife/weapon for hunting, and any other tools used for post-apocalyptic survival. We already have most of these. Here is a collage of possible items:

This week, I contacted my friend who is also in AICE Media Studies for places to rent film equipment whether it was worth it. She told me that the equipment was useful, but hard to set up and had to be adjusted a lot. She said that a phone camera would work just fine. Our group discussed and decided that we would just use our phone cameras for an easier filming process.

Film Prep Week 2

This week, we discussed further locations and details planning our film opening. We realized we needed a set for filming scenes inside an abandoned house. After research, we figured it would be best to film at Thalia's house, where we could rearrange furniture and decorate it to look abandoned. If not, we can always add effects in post-production. Our set will be a bedroom and possible kitchen, as well as shots filmed outside and an establishing shot of an abandoned house, which we still need to find.

Also, I have been researching costume ideas and figured it would be best to have a simple costume that still shows the movie genre. The costume will most likely be a dirty/worn tank top and cargo pants. Here are some outfits I found for inspiration.

Film Prep Week 1

This week, our team just wanted to get the foundation of our film opening planned out. We discussed the best times to film for each scene and according to our availability. We figured out who would act in the film, as well as the location and any other props or materials we would need.

Location:

We decided to film at  Wolf Lake Park in Davie for most of the establishing shots and filler shots. We researched various different forests, nature reserves, and other places with lots of trees and plants with little to no sign of life around. This was the best option due to distance and appearance. Even though there are houses in the background, the majority of this place is just plants and forests. It doesn't look too lively either, which is better for that dystopian look.

Actors:

We thought it would be easier to keep all filming aspects within the group, so we decided that Thalia would act as the main character in the film opening.

Film Schedule:

We agreed that filming after school would be hard to adjust to all of our different schedules, so filming on the weekends was preferable. We will film on Saturdays or Sundays, depending on our availability, from 1-4 pm.

Roles in Production/Postproduction

Every team member needs to contribute the same amount, so we decided on which roles each of us will have.
  • Addison- I will make the costume, film, help with editing, and make foley sounds.
  • Thalia (Lia)- She will act as the main character, make foley sounds and voiceover, and make the title cards in the film opening.
  • Koby- He will edit, help with lighting during filming, as well as film.
