Film Week 2 + Editing (Final Week!)

This week we worked really bard to finish up filming and editing our film openers.

Koby and Lia filmed again at Wolf Lake park as well as at Lia's house to get the scenes located inside. Unfortunately, I was not available to film that day, but they got some great shots.

We had a bit of trouble figuring out how to arrange our clips according to our screenplay. Lia wrote out our script for the MC's logs to make the plot more cohesive. Koby added title cards and did most of the editing through Adobe Premiere Pro. I will add some tweaks and music/sound effects if I am able to import the video into iMovie, which I am more familiar editing on.

Overall, this week was pretty stressful gathering all the final details to finish up our film opening. I am proud of us for accomplishing this and we are happy with how it turned out.

See next post for final film opening! ➡

Filming Week 1

This week, we started filming at our first location, Wolf Lake Park.

It had lots of great plants and scenic trails that really fit our film’s genre and would add to the mise en scene.
We filmed many shots of the main character walking and doing their daily tasks, as well as filming plants for b-roll.

I also made the tank top that our character is wearing. Lia provided the rest of the outfit, which matched my idea pretty well.
We will begin shooting at Lia’s house and editing our current clips throughout the week.

Film Prep Week 5

This is the FINAL week of film prep. It turns out that our group's schedules were very hard to align and coordinate a good time to meet up and film.
Luckily, we planned out all of the details and tied loose ends when finalizing our planning for our film opening.

We made this paper to put all the details about what we needed to get/make, where we were filming, and what shots we would be doing. We also designed the layout of the house we would be filming in, and every group member's roles. This made us fully confident in preparing everything and we are now ready to start filming!

Film Prep Week 4

This week, we focused on starting our script and figuring out which shots to use for scenes. We referenced our storyboard.

First, we will start with establishing shots of the forest, showing the sun shining through the trees. We will have shots of the MC walking through the forest, and an establishing shot of the house with overgrown plans on it. It then cuts to our main character waking up and going through their daily routine. Most of this will be in medium shots. For when the MC goes down the stairs, we will use a low angle shot. At the end, the camera will slowly pan to the door and then go straight to black and the title card will show.

Film Prep Week 3

This week, we focused on gathering materials for our film opening. Starting with the costume, I already have a gray tank top which I am going to distress and make look dirty. Thalia has the cargo pants. For our props, we are going to use what we already have. They are not too important because they will mostly be in the background. The props we will use are a satchel/bag for the MC to hold tools, alarm clock, food for them to eat for breakfast, maybe a fake knife/weapon for hunting, and any other tools used for post-apocalyptic survival. We already have most of these. Here is a collage of possible items:

This week, I contacted my friend who is also in AICE Media Studies for places to rent film equipment whether it was worth it. She told me that the equipment was useful, but hard to set up and had to be adjusted a lot. She said that a phone camera would work just fine. Our group discussed and decided that we would just use our phone cameras for an easier filming process.
